Do you know your body type?

Body Type

Like it or not we are all born with different body types, each requiring different sets of training principles to achieve our health and fitness goals. More specifically there are three main body types: the Ectomorphs, the Mesomorphs and the Endomorphs. However, people can be a mix of Ectomorph and Mesomorph or Endomorph and Mesomorph.

Ectomorph (skinny)

Ectomorphs are characterized by a thin lean built with little muscle and fat. These people have a high metabolism and find it hard to gain any kind of weight, muscle or body fat. The goal here is to gain muscle mass by increasing the caloric intake and focusing on strength training.

Mesomorph (Athletic)

Mesomorphs have large bone structures, more muscles and are naturally athletic. It’s easy for them to gain or lose weight. A combination of strength training and high intensity training works best for them as it allows them to build muscle mass while improving their cardiovascular endurance and burning fat.

Endomorph (Heavy/Bulky)

Endomorphs are generally short and stocky and gain muscle but also pack on body fat without much effort. While strength training is included, diet and cardiovascular training become very important here to lose body fat. In terms of diet, lean proteins and complex carbohydrates should be the main focus while avoiding empty calories that pack on pounds easily for this body type.

At Unionville Fitness we design personalized programs according to our clients’ body types to help them achieve their health and fitness goals. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@unionvillefitness.ca.
